#21 women's tennis downs Stonehill, 6-3

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis women's tennis team bounced back from a 2-1 doubles deficit to defeat Stonehill College, 6-3, today. With the win, the Judges - ranked No. 21 in Division III - improve to 7-3. The Skyhawks - ranked No. 43 in Division II - fall to 14-4. 

The Judges opened their scoring at No. 1 doubles, where junior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and rookie Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) picked up an 8-2 win. Stonehill took No. 3, 8-1, and outlasted the Judges at No. 2, 9-7.

In singles play, Brandeis took care of business quickly. Junior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J./Academy of Allied Health and Science) quickly evened the match at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. At the top spot, sophomore Sabrina Ross Neergaard (Port Orchard, Wash./Laurel Springs Prep) returned to the lineup and delivered a 6-0, 6-3, victory. Leavitt added her second win of the day at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep) clinched the victory with a comeback three-set win, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Rookie Rachel Zubrinsky (Waxhaw, N.C./Marvin Ridge) rounded out the scoring at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3. 

Brandeis returns to action on Saturday at noon at NYU in a key matchup for UAA tournament seeding.
