MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Brandeis University senior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus/ Secondary School #185 of Minsk) had the deepest run of any Judge at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Women's Regional this weekend, making it to the round of 16 at Middlebury College.

Dehterevich, a 9-16 seed, opened the tournament with a marathon win, 6-1, 6-7, 10-5, against Amanda Frank of host Middlebury. She reached the second day of competition with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Ipek Akgul of Babson. In the round of 16, it was another dramatic three-set match, but Dehterevich could not overcome 8 seed Libby Rickerman of MIT, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 10-4.

Also advancing to the second round of competition for the Judges was sophomore Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill. / Boylan Central Catholic), who defeated Cara Freadman of Springfield, 6-2, 6-2, in the opener, but was defeated by a 9-16 seed, Mathilda Rigby of Tufts, by the same exact score.

Two Brandeis players were eliminated in the first round. Junior Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) fell to sixth-seeded Kristina Yu of Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-0, while junior Isabel Cepeda (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) dropped a 6-2, 6-4, match to Libby Chang of Wellesley.

In doubles action, Dehterevich and Bertsch earned a 5-8 seed, but were upset in the first round by a duo from Amherst, Ramras and Owensby, 8-6, who would go on to reach the semifinals. Hatfield and Cepeda met the top seeds from Tufts, Dorr and Garrido, and pushed them before falling, 8-5.

The Judges return to action on Oct. 11 and 12 at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament at Amherst and Mount Holyoke.
