NICHOLASVILLE, Kent. – Sophomore walk-on Summer Quinn (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall Episcopal) earned her first collegiate win today to clinch a 5-4 victory over host Centre College in the seventh-place match at the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championships.

Brandeis trailed, 2-1, after doubles action, picking up their lone singles win at #1, where junior Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) and sophomore Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Central Catholic) held on for an 8-6 victory. Centre earned wins, 8-5 and 8-2, at the #2 and #3 positions.

The Colonels picked up their third point quickly in singles play, winning 6-1, 6-1, at #5, before the Judges started their comeback. Hatfield picked up her second singles win of the tournament at #2, 6-2, 6-2, to make it a 3-2 score. Centre picked up their fourth point at #3 singles with a 6-4, 6-2, win, pushing the Judges to the brink.

Brandeis bounced back to win the final three matches. Bertsch picked up a 6-4, 6-3, victory at #1, while sophomore Isabel Cepeda (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) tied the match at #4 with a 7-6, 6-2 win.

Quinn, who just joined the Judges earlier this week, stayed on serve throughout the opening set, but fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6. In the second, she used a late break of serve to win, 6-4, then rolled to the clinching third-set win, 6-1.

The Judges improve to 1-4 on the season with the win, while the Colonels fall to 2-7. Brandeis returns to action next Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Wellesley College on the road.
