Women's DMR finishes second on Day 1 of UAA Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brandeis University track and field team had two All-Association performances and four other scoring events tonight on the first day of the 2020 University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by NYU at The Armory in New York City,

The Judges had one All-Association event each for the men and the women. On the men's side, it was senior Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) who earned individual honors in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 6.90 meters (22 feet, 7 ¾ inches), good for third place. Allan's top jump came on his next-to-last leap of the night. This was his first career All-UAA honor indoors.

On the women's side, it was the distance medley relay that reached the podium, placing second to the University of Chicago. The race was led off by junior Andrea Bolduc (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) in the 1,200-meter led. She handed off to rookie Sydney D'Amaddio (Amston, Conn./RHAM) for the 400, followed by classmate Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) for the 800. Junior Niamh Kenney (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) ran the 1,600-meter leg in just a shade over five minutes to narrow the final gap to just about a second to UC with a final overall time of 12:08.92, nearly two seconds faster than Carnegie Mellon in third. This is the third-straight year the Judges finished in the top 2 in the DMR, having won in each of the past two seasons.

The Judges additional scoring performances came in three other events. In the men's high jump, Brandeis competitors took seventh and eighth. Rookie Dion Morris-Evans (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) placed seventh with a height of 1.85 meters (6 feet, ¾ inches), while Allan was eighth at 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10 ¾ inches).

The men's distance medley relay placed seventh with a time of 10:32.78 run by the quartet of senior Alec Rogers (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial), sophomore Jamie O'Neil (Auburndale, Mass./Newton North), sophomore Aaron Portman (Wheeling, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and junior Josh Lombardo (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook).

On the women's side, senior Willa Moen (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) just snuck into the scoring column in the pole vault, tying with two others for eighth place with a height of 3.23 meters (10 feet, 7 inches. Moen was just an inch of her personal best.
