WESTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University women's track and field team won nine different events on Thursday to win the 2023 Regis Spring Classic with 181 points, 74 points ahead of second-place Emmanuel.
TOP PERFORMERS
- The Judges took five individual races, three field events and one relay among their victories.
- Leading the way was sophomore Smiley Huynh (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx H.S. of Science), who was a double-winner in the pole vault and long jump. She cleared 3.05m in the pole vault (10-0) and jumped 5.23m in the long jump (17-2).
- First-year Shaniece Nugent (Hartford, Conn. / Lawrence Academy) picked up the team's third field win in the triple jump with a distance of 10.63m (34-10 ½).
- Huynh and Nugent ran the middle two legs of the winning 4x100-meter relay, with senior Devin Hiltunen (Quincy, MA / North Quincy) taking the lead leg and junior Alya Campbell (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) the anchor as the Judges won with a time of 50.48 seconds, a five-second margin of victory.
- The Judges won each of the track events from 100 to 800 meters, taking the top two or three spots in each of those events.
- In the 100, Hiltunen outpaced junior Ianna Gilbert (Queens, N.Y. / Young Women's Leadership School of Queens) with a time of 12.98 seconds to Gilbert's 13.60, which was a p.r.
- Campbell had a personal best of 26.46 second to win the 200, ahead of Hiltunen (26.60 seconds) and Nugent (27.86 seconds).
- A trio of Judges took the top three spots in the 400, led by junior Liz Korn (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) in 59.26 seconds. Senior Victoria Morrongiello (Staten Island, N.Y. / Susan E. Wagner) was second with a p.r. of 1:01.59, while junior Olivia Zarzycki (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) was third in 1:02.71.
- Senior Yahni Lapa (West Newton, Mass. / Newton North) edged sophomore Hannah Bohbot-Dridi (Mountain View, Calif. / Los Altos) in the 400-meter hurdles 1:06.63 to 1:07.00, which was a p.r. for Bohbot-Dridi.
- Sophomore Kayla DiBenedetto (Andover, Mass. / Andover) rounded out the winners with a p.r. time of 2:23.02, ahead of senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood), who ran 2:26.88.
