• Three from Brandeis earn volleyball All-UAA honors

    Junior outside hitter Paige Blasco led a trio of Brandeis volleyball players named to the All-University Athletic Association team today. Paige was a second-team selection, while twin sister Abby, a setter, and junior middle blocker Nicole Smith were honorable mention All-UAA selections.

  • Volleyball earns second seed in 2009 ECAC tournament

    The Brandeis volleyball team returns to the ECAC Division III New England Championship tournament for the third time in four years. The Judges, who won crowns in 2006 and 2007, will try to earn their third title as the tournament's second seed. They face Colby-Sawyer College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
  • Volleyball finishes sixth at UAA Championships

    The Brandeis volleyball team finished in sixth place at the 2009 UAA Championships, playing some extremely close matches. The Judges, who lost to Emory and Chicago, 3-0, and defeated CMU, 3-1, in pool play, fell, 3-2, to Case in the 5th-place match. Of their 15 sets at the tourney, 11 were decided by five points or less, including eight decided by three or fewer.
  • Carfagno earns second-straight Judges Classic MVP honors

    Senior Piera Carfagno was named Most Valuable Player of the Judges Classic for the second year in a row as Brandeis defeated Keene State, 3-0, Maine-Machias, 3-0, and Oneonta State, 3-1. The Judges shutout UMM in the first set of their match.
  • Abby Blasco earns All-Tourney at Hall of Fame Invitational, Judges finish sixth

    The Brandeis volleyball team finished in sixth place at the 2009 Hall of Fame Invitational. The Judges, seeded fifth, fell to MIT in five sets to open the tournament. They dropped host Smith, 3-0, in the consolation semifinals, but Wellesley avenged an earlier loss in the fifth-place match with a 3-0 win. Junior setter Abby Blasco earned All-Tournament honors.
  • Volleyball ends UAA regular season in seventh place

    The Brandeis volleyball team went 0-4 at the second University Athletic Association (UAA) round robin, finishing in seventh place in the UAA regular season. The Judges fell to Chicago by a 3-1 score and dropped 3-0 decisions to Carnegie Mellon, Emory and NYU.
  • Volleyball cruises by Coast Guard and Keene State, 3-0

    The Brandeis volleyball team topped Coast Guard, 3-0, in the first of two matches today. Set scores were 25-13, 25-21, 25-20. The Judges also defeated Keene State, 3-0, with set scores of 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. Junior Nikki Smith had 16 kills in 27 attempts for a .593 hitting percentage in the two matches.
  • Volleyball goes 1-2 at first UAA round robin

    The Brandeis volleyball team got its 2009 University Athletic Association schedule off to a 1-2 start. The Judges fell to fifth-ranked Washington University, 3-0, in their opener on Saturday night. They dropped their first Sunday to Case, 3-1, before defeating host Rochester, 3-0.
  • Volleyball finishes 2-1 at Amherst Classic

    Junior outside hitter Paige Blasco recorded at least 20 kills in all three matches as the Brandeis volleyball team posted a 2-1 record at the Amherst Classic, going to five sets in two of the three matches. The Judges fell to host Amherst in the opener, 3-2, but rallied to top Westfield State, 3-0, and Middlebury, 3-2.
  • Volleyball bows to Tufts, 3-1

    Junior Abby Blasco (37 assists, 19 digs) and senior Piera Carfagno (12 kills, 12 digs) each recorded double-doubles, but the Judges could not hold on to momentum after a fine showing in the first set, falling to Tufts, 3-1. Set scores were 25-12, 22-25, 22-25, 21-25.

    Senior right side Piera Carfagno just missed a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs tonight as the volleyball team defeated Endicott College, 3-1, on the road. Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 27-25, 25-17.
  • Smith earns All-Tourney honors as Judges split again at Brandeis Invitational

    The hosts finished with a 2-2 record at the nine-team Brandeis Volleyball Invitational this weekend, as the Judges fell to Tufts and swept Babson on the second day of action. Junior middle blocker Nicole Smith earned All-Tournament honors with 27 kills, 12 blocks and a .440 hitting percentage.

    Senior Bridget McAllister had a team-high 14 kills in a 3-0 win over Rhode Island College on the first day of the Brandeis Volleyball Invitational. The Judges won the first set of their second match, but could not finish off Williams, despite 14 kills each from Paige Blasco and Nicole Smith.

    Senior co-captain Piera Carfagno led the Brandeis volleyball team past Wellesley for the first time since 2006 with 11 kills and a team-high 17 digs as the Judges topped the Blue, 3-1. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13.
  • Volleyball goes 3-1 to finish second at Springfield

    In their first weekend competition of the season, the Brandeis volleyball team finished in second place at the Springfield College Invitational. The Judges defeated Roger Williams, Westfield State and Lasell before bowing to host Springfield, 3-2, in the final match of the day. Juniors Paige and Abby Blasco were named to the All-Tournament team.
  • Kim earns 100th career win in volleyball season opener, 3-0, over Babson

    Senior Bridget McAllister had a match-high 10 kills and junior setter Abby Blasco had 30 assists tonight, helping sixth-year head coach Michelle Kim reach the 100-win plateau in the volleyball team's season opener. The Judges defeated Babson, 3-0, on the road.
