Bartlett, Allen named UAA Athletes of the Week, Oct. 24

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior forward Andrew Allen of Norfolk, Massachusetts and junior middle hitter Emma Bartlett of Duxbury, Massachusetts, have been selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer and Volleyball Players of the Week for the week ending October 21st.

Allen was recognized for his two-goal performance against Clark University on Oct. 17th. Allen, who had scored Brandeis's game-winning goal with less than 15 seconds in double overtime in the Judges' previous game, tallied just 54 seconds into the game against Clark to open the scoring. He found the back of the net again in the 11th minute to give Brandeis a 2-0 lead and register his second career two-goal game. Clark scored twice in the second half and the teams ended up with a 2-2 draw.

Allen is tied for the team lead with six goals this season.

Brandeis is now 7-6-2 on the season with three UAA road games to come, starting with Washington University this Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.

Bartlett earned her second UAA Player of the Week honor after leading the Judges to a perfect 3-0 record at the Hall of Fame Invitational at Smith College last week. Brandeis swept Worcester State, Smith and Trinity (Conn.). Bartlett averaged 3.22 kills per set and made just two errors with 29 kills in 55 attempts for a .491 hitting percentage. She also posted four blocks (three solo) to top the team with 32.5 points. She had nine kills and no errors in 19 attempts against Worcester State, eight kills and two errors in 15 attempts against Smith. In the weekend finale against Trinity, Bartlett totaled 12 kills with no errors in 21 attempts for a .571, her second-highest of the season. She also had three solo blocks in that match.

For the season, Bartlett leads the Judges in kills (2.72 kills per set) and blocks (0.80 blocks per set), ranking 11th in the UAA kills and ninth in blocks.

The Judges meet Wellesley on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. then face UMass Boston in their home finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Allen is a 2015 graduate of King Phillip Regional High School.

Bartlett is a 2016 graduate of Duxbury High School.
