Borgert named CoSIDA Academic All-District for second year in a row

WALTHAM, Mass. – Recent Brandeis University volleyball graduate Marissa Borgert of Blaine, Minnesota, has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-District Volleyball team for the 2020-21 school year. With this honor, her second Academic All-District selection in a row, Borgert is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade-point average and be a significant contributor to their team.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.

Borgert, served as a setter for the Judges in the 2019 season. They did not compete in 2020 because of COVID-19. On the court, Borgert played in 84 of a possible 89 matches in her career, making 79 starts. She finished with 466 kills, 105 service aces, 109 blocks, 485 digs, and 1,357 assists in her career. Borgert played mostly as an outside hitter as a first-year player, split time at setter and OH as a sophomore, and transitioned to full-time setter as a junior. In her final competitive season before COVID-19 in 2019, she led the Judges in service aces with 34, while her 0.39 aces per set were sixth-most in the University Athletic Association. She also averaged 7.09 assists per set, ranking fourth in the league. For her efforts, Borgert was named honorable mention All-UAA in 2019. Her 1,471 career assists rank eighth on Brandeis's career list.

Off the court, Borgert graduated with a 3.85 grade point average as a biology and Health: Science, Society and Policy major. She was a Dean's List student every semester and landed on the Academic All-University Athletic Association team three times. She served as a teaching assistant for an organic chemistry class in her career and interned at an animal hospital in her native Minnesota in 2020.

Borgert is a 2017 graduate of Spring Lake Park High School.
