Intrieri leads women's x-country to 14th place at Conn. College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Brandeis University cross country teams ran in their final tune-up for championship season today at the Connecticut College Invitational. The men placed third overall in the White division, while the women were 14th overall in the Blue division.


  • Men, 3rd of 15 teams, 109 points.
  • Women:, 14th of 22 teams, 382 points.


  • In the women's race, the White race saw Brandeis finishing in 14th place in the team standings with 382 points.
  • For the first time this season, junior Juliette Intrieri (North Salem, N.Y./North Salem) was the team's top runner. She placed 39th with a time of 22:48.0 over six kilometers. Running that distance for the first time this season, Intrieri lowered her overall p.r. by 15 seconds for 6K, breaking 23 minutes for the first time.
  • Senior Bridget Pickard (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) ran second for the team, coming in 83rd in 83rd with a time of 23:24.7, 24 seconds faster than her previous best.
  • The next three Judges were all right behind Pickard, starting with junior Lizzy Reynolds (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester) in 88th place with a time of 23:29.20; first-year Katriona Briggs (Menlo Park, Calif. / Menlo-Atherton) in 88th in 23:33.2; and sophomore Zada Forde (Leverett, Mass. / Amherst Regional) in 100th place in 23:35.6. All three set collegiate-bests for 6K as well.


  • Running in the first of two races on the day for the men, senior Matthew Driben (Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) won his third race of the season, covering the eight-kilometer race in 25:25.4.
  • It was his fasted time for 8K by 14 seconds, and 1:50 better than his previous best time on the Conn. College course.
  • Driben has won three of his four races this season.
  • Sophomore Lucas Dia (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair) had his best performance of the campaign, running a p.r. of 26:22.6 to place fourth overall. It was only his second time under 27 minutes for an 8K or five mile race.
  • Dia's previous best in a cross country race was fifth at Wellesley earlier this year.
  • First-years TJ Carleo (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) and Rob King (Clarksville, Md. / River Hill) were 12th and 24th, posting times of 26:43.4 and 27:11.1, respectively.
  • Sophomore Dashiell Janicki (New York, N.Y. / H.S. for Math, Science and Eng. at City College) rounded out Brandeis's top five with a time of 29:36.3, 74th overall.
  • The Judges placed 3rd out of 15 teams with 109 points, just 10 behind second-place Eastern Connecticut State.
