The #23 Judges rolled past Rochester, 7-2 in the consolation semifinals, but couldn't hang on to upset #6 Case Western Reserve in a 5-4 loss in the fifth-place match.
Bud Collins, the University's first tennis coach, and Tom O'Connell, who brought the 1977 baseball team to the College World Series, passed away on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
The Judges started their trip to California with a 9-0 win over the Panthers. Highlights included a pair of wins by junior Michael Arguello coming back after a semester abroad in Australia and two wins by rookies at the bottom of the lineup.
