Tyler Savonen scored for the fourth game in a row and the Judges outshot the Hawks, 20-4, to move onto the third round for the second year in a row. Brandeis will face Williams in the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row at a site to be determined.
The Judges scored twice in the first five minutes, and again early in the second half to take the wind out of Johnson and Wales's sails. Michael Soboff (G, 2A) and Tyler Savonen (G, A) starred for Brandeis.
The Judges (14-4-1) will take on Johnson & Wales (14-1-6) on Saturday, November 16, at 5 p.m., followed by Rutgers-Newark (17-5-1) and Roger Williams (15-5-2) at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Tudor Livadaru scored the game-winner on a nice free kick, while Tyler Savonen scored a goal in each half as the Judges improved to 13-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the conference.
Ben Applefield and Sam Ocel were honored for the men; Kelly Peterson and Michelle Savuto for the women. All four will be eligible for Academic All-America honors to be announced later this month.
Conor Lanahan notched his second goal of the season in the 70th minute, but the Tartans equalized seven minutes later and won it four minutes into extra time.
Senior back Ben Applefield had the game-winning goal in the first half, while junior transfer Michael Soboff had a hand in all three second-half goals as the Judges won their UAA opener on the road.
Tyler Savonen jumped into the Judges' career scoring Top 30 list with a pair of goals. He is now ranked 27th with 17 goals and 12 assists for 46 points.
Kyle Feather had two goals, while Tudor Livadaru and Michael Chaput had a goal and assist each as the Judges defeated a Laser squad that was down a man for much of the game.
