The Brandeis University Department of Athletics and the Friends of Brandeis Athletics (FOBA) are proud to announce the members of the Class of 2009 to the Brandeis Athletics Hall of Fame. The 13th Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at an 11:00 a.m. brunch ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Waltham on November 1.
In addition to their All-UAA recognition, senior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) and sophomore OH Paige Blasco (Greeley, Colo.) added honorable mention All-New England recognition from the AVCA and the NEWVA.
Senior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach has been named as a second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection for the second year in a row. Sophomore sisters Abby and Paige Blasco were honorable-mention All-UAA selections at setter and outside hitter, respectively.
With a 3-0 win over the University of Rochester today, the Brandeis volleyball team advanced to the third-place match at the University Athletic Association championships. The Judges lost to Carnegie Mellon, 3-0, with two sets decided by two points to finish fourth in the conference for the second year in a row.
The Brandeis volleyball team pushed top-seeded and top-ranked Emory in the third set, but the Judges ultimately fell, 3-0. Set scores were 25-14, 25-12, 27-25. Coach Michelle Kim's squad bounced back to avenge one of their regular-season UAA losses, defeating Chicago in a 3-2 marathon, 24-22, in the fifth set.
Senior Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) was named tournament MVP and sophomore middle blocker Nicole Smith (Marietta, Ga.) also earned All-tournament honors as the Brandeis volleyball team topped three out-of-region teams for the Judges Classic title.
The Brandeis volleyball team bounced back from its first-round loss in the Hall of Fame Tournament to defeat Bowdoin College in three straight. The Judges defeated the Polar Bears, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22, but lost to Williams in the fifth-place match, 14-25, 26-28, 25-18, 19-25.
The sixth-seeded Brandeis volleyball team dropped its first-round match at the Hall of Fame Invitational today, falling to third-seeded Wellesley, 3-0. Set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-17. The Judges will face seventh seed Bowdoin tomorrow morning and then either Williams or host Smith College in the afternoon.
Sophomore setter Abby Blasco has been selected as the University Athletic Association Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for her performance in conference matches on Oct 18 and 19. Judge senior outside hitter Lorraine Wingenbach also had a fine weekend, becoming Brandeis's all-time kills leader.

Brandeis senior outside Lorraine Wingenbach (Buffalo, N.Y.) tied the Judges' all-time kill mark with her last kill in a 3-1 win over Carnegie Mellon and broke it with her first in a 3-0 defeat of Rochester as Brandeis hosted the first day of the season's second UAA Round Robin. She finished the day with 1,725 kills, surpassing Julie Hootnick '01's total of 1,717.

The Brandeis volleyball team suffered two more University Athletic Association losses at the first UAA round robin at Carnegie Mellon University. Despite falling to NYU, 3-2, and the University of Chicago, 3-0, the Judges were competitive, as all six of their set losses were by five points or less, including three two-point losses.

In a closely contested match, the Brandeis volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback at the hands of unbeaten Tufts, 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 27-29, 25-23) on the Cousens Gymnasium in Medford Tuesday night. The teams entered play with two of the better records in New England early in the 2008 season, but the Jumbos remained undefeated at 9-0 and Brandeis fell to 8-2.
