WALTHAM, Mass. – Men’s basketball forward Chandler Jones of Springfield, Massachusetts, has been named the December 14th Brandeis Athlete of the Week, presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group.

Jones averaged 8.5 points, 8 rebounds and 1.5 steals, 1 assist and 1 block per game in a 2-0 week for the Judges. Last Tuesday, he had six points and nine rebounds in an 88-44 win over Lasell, the largest win for the Judges under head coach Jean Bain. In a 69-68 win over Colby on Saturday afternoon, Jones had 11 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocked shots. One of his steals clinched the victory, coming with under 10 seconds to go in regulation, and the game tied. After getting fouled, he hit 1-of-2 from the line to provide the final margin of victory.

The Judges currently boast a 7-2 record this season, head coach Jean Bain’s second on the bench and third overall. They were ranked 25th in Division III in the preseason, a result of returning three All-Conference selections from last 2019-20, including Jones, graduate student Collin Sawyer and graduate transfer Tommy Eastman, who came from Middlebury College.

The Judges are back in action on Tuesday, December 30th at 3 p.m. against Union College.

This is the sixth year that the Brandeis Athlete of the Week program has been presented by The Chateau Restaurant Group. The Athlete of the Year Program highlights a top Brandeis student-athlete who has had an outstanding athletic achievement from the week prior.  Each selected student-athlete will be featured on the Brandeis athletics homepage and inside the Chateau Waltham and Jake N Joes
