Hi my name is Tim Bombeli, and I am a junior on the Brandeis Men’s Soccer team. I am majoring in Business and HSSP and doing a minor in French as well. I am originally from Zurich, Switzerland, and I currently live in Seattle, Washington.

I am spending my Spring semester abroad in Melbourne, Australia, and I will be taking classes at the University of Melbourne. The University of Melbourne offers an excellent business school which will help me continue my major at Brandeis. I’ll be taking courses related to Finance, entrepreneurship, and business management/administration. Additionally I will be taking a health science course, focusing on the health care system in Australia. This is interesting to me as I’ve taken several healthcare related courses at Brandeis, which taught me about the American system, and now I’ll be covering how Australia runs their system and how it differs from the United States. I believe that studying abroad in Melbourne will give me several new perspectives and insights in both healthcare and business aspects, which I can then apply to my studies at Brandeis.

I’ve been down here in Australia for a few weeks now and spent it traveling as much as possible and exploring new places before my classes officially begin in early March. I began my Down Under in Melbourne for a few days at the Australian Open tennis tournament, watching my fellow countryman Roger Federer play, which was an incredible experience.

From there I took a road trip along the famous Great Ocean Road, spending several days hiking in National Parks, until I reached Adelaide. My next stop was the Outback, specifically visiting the well-known Uluru (Ayers Rock), before heading to Sydney for a couple days for Orientation. In a few days time, I’ll be heading back to my host city Melbourne, and spending a few days there with new friends I made along the way until my semester begins.

During my time in Australia I hope to create lasting connections with people, learn valuable concepts within my majors, and of course travel and explore Australia whenever I have free time.  So far Australia is an incredible country and I’m looking forward to continue making the most out of my semester abroad.
