Eight Brandeis teams honored by coaches' associations for academic success

WALTHAM, Mass. – Eight Brandeis University athletic teams have been honored by their respective coaches' associations for their success in the classroom in 2022-23 academic year.

  • Volleyball, under the guidance of Alesia Bennett was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association by earning the 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award. This is the sixth time the Judges have been honored in the last seven years and the ninth overall.
  • The Brandeis women's tennis team was honored for the 8th time in the last nine years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. In addition, eight of the 10 team members earned ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition under head coach Pauri Pandian.
  • The Brandeis men's and women's track and field teams, led by Sinead Evans, each claimed honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, with both squads boasting team GPAs greater than 3.50. In addition, rising sophomore TJ Carleo of Newburyport, Massachusetts, was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete.
  • The men's and women's swimming and diving teams were honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America as Scholar All-America teams, with both of coach Nicole Carter's squads earning cumulative GPAs above 3.42. Rising senior Sam Dienstag of Wilmette, Illinois, was named an individual scholar All-American by the CSCAA.
  • Both men's and women's fencing teams, coached by Elif Soyer Sachs, were honored by the United States Fencing Coaches Association as All-Academic teams. The women posted the sixth-highest team GPA in collegiate fencing, while the men were seventh. In all, 30 Judges were named All-Academic by the USFCA for boasting GPAs above 3.3, while 17 were Scholars of Distinction award winners for being 3.7 or higher.
