Dunphy wins 10th as Judges defeat Endicott, 12-4

BEVERLY, MA (taken from an EC press release) - Brandeis University plated three runs in both the second and the fifth innings to down Endicott College, 12-4, Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Endicott College.

The Gulls (23-18) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a Matt Bishop (Woburn, MA) two-run homer in the first inning, but the rest of the day belonged to the Judges and starter Tim Dunphy (Cambridge, MA), who went the distance to improve to 10-3 on the mound. He scattered 13 hits and just four runs while fanning 10 and walking just one. Dunphy tossed his eighth complete game of the season and moved to within one win of Brandeis's single-season record. He is one of six Division III pitchers to win 10 games this season.

Junior outfielder Ben Dashefsky (Massapequa, NY) powered the Brandeis attack, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Classmate DH Jonathan Winston (Nanuet, NY) drove in a pair of runs on two hits while sophomore 3B Malcolm Cone-Coleman (Portland, ME) was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI as well.

Bishop was 3-for-5 for Endicott, while Kevin Donahue (Reading, MA) plated the other two runs, going 4-for-4 with two RBI. Donahue hit a two-run double to left field in the eighth to cut the Judges lead to 10-4, but the visitors got the runs right back in the top of the ninth.

Gulls' starter Dave Weinreich (Milford, CT) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs (4 earned) on five hits over his 4.1 innings of work. Reliever Mike Wells (South Portland, ME)
went three innings of four-hit baseball, giving up two runs to go along with three strikeouts.
