Baseball bounces back with 12-8 win at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. (taken from a WPI press release) -- Chuck Sheehan (Lexington, MA) amassed three hits and four runs batted in to help Brandeis rally to defeat host WPI 12-8 in non conference baseball action on Wednesday. The Judges are now 13-7-1 while the Engineers fall to 10-14 on the season.

Brandeis trailed by scores of 4-0 and 8-5 before scoring the final seven runs of the contest. Sheehan gave the Judges their first lead of the game with a two-out, two-run single to center field in the top of the seventh.

Ben Dashefsky (Massapequa, NY) tallied three hits on the afternoon for the Judges while Zach Golden (Milton, MA), Jonathan Winston (Nanuet, NY) and Mike Alfego (Shrewsbury, MA) chipped in with two hits apiece. Chris Navis (Walpole, MA) and Golden each registered a pair of runs batted in while Scott Kuhen (Hamilton, NJ) scored three times.

Aaron Landes (Southboro, MA) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to even his record at 1-1. The right-hander allowed just one hit while striking out four.

WPI jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a first inning grand slam off the bat of Dan Mahoney (Troy, NY). Billy Flaherty (Mansfield, MA) added a solo homer for the Engineers in the third inning. Matt Fiore (Wakefield, MA and Ethan Brown (Lunenburg, MA) both collected two hits and a run scored.

Starter Craig Shevlin (South Hadley, MA) allowed just three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work for WPI. Brian Duncan (West Suffield, CT) absorbed the loss in relief to dip to 3-3 on the year.

WPI is off until Saturday when they travel to Cambridge for a NEWMAC doubleheader with MIT at noon. Brandeis will host Western New England on Thursday at 3pm.
