SANFORD, Fla. – In his first collegiate start, sophomore
James Collins (So. Boston, MA) surrendered four runs on six hits in
4.2 innings in the Judges’ loss to Rochester on Friday.
Collins finished the day with two strikeouts.
Brandeis (3-2, 3-2 UAA) managed to score two runs in the fourth
after freshman C Artie Posch (Hopedale, MA) doubled to left field,
advancing freshman 1B Ryan Healey (Lynn, MA), who had been hit by a
pitch to lead off the inning, to third. Freshman 3B James Likis
(Cambridge, MA) followed with a sacrifice fly into centerfield,
scoring Healey from third. With two outs, sophomore RF Dave Almeida
(Bridgeport, CT) singled into right field, scoring Posch,
representing the last of the Judges’ offense. Opposing
pitcher, sophomore Michael Park, yielded two runs off five hits and
four walks in his five innings pitched.
Rochester managed to score one run in the second off a sacrifice
fly by senior OF/DH Frank Infurna, scoring junior OF Dave Kloc from
third. From then, it wasn’t until the fourth inning that the
Yellowjackets began their offensive attack. Scoring four runs in
three innings off five hits and two errors, the team was led by
Infurna with his two RBI on two hits and one run scored.
Junior P Rocco Toppi (Portland, ME) came in as middle relief,
giving up one unearned run in 1.2 innings pitched. He managed one
strike out in his short-lived performance. The Yellowjackets
rallied for three hits in the bottom of the eighth, but to no avail
as junior P/OF Chris McDonough (Sudbury, MA) relieved the ballgame
for the Judges, contributing 1.2 innings of scoreless pitching with
one strikeout.
