NO. DARMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior right fielder Ben Dashefsky
(Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-4 with a double and three RBI today to
lead the Brandeis University baseball team back over the .500 mark
with a 6-3 win at UMass-Dartmouth.
Brandeis (7-6) scored two runs in the top of the first without
benefit of a hit. Dashefsky and senior SS Zach Golden (Milton,
Mass.) both drew one-out walks and moved to second and third on a
passed ball. Senior LF Jon Winston (Nanuet, N.Y.) opened the
scoring with a sacrifice fly, while Golden came home on a wild
pitch.
UMass-Dartmouth (4-10) tied the contest in the bottom of the frame.
Rookie 3B Reid Burns (Westport, Mass.) led off with a single and
moved to third on sophomore LF Peter Gomez’s (Bridgewater,
Mass.) double. Sophomore 2B Dave Ogorzalek (Rockfall, Conn.) drove
in one run with a sacrifice fly, and a single by junior 1B Dylan
Zygmont (Swansea, Mass.) tied the game. Burns’ RBI single in
the third gave the Corsairs a 3-2 lead.
The Judges reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning on RBI singles
by junior CF Chuck Sheehan (Lexington, Conn.) and Dashefsky.
Dashefsky added two more insurance runs with a two-run double in
the sixth.
That was all that rookie Drew Brzozowski (Concord, Mass.) needed,
as he limited the Corsairs to six hits in 8.1 innings to earn his
second victory against no defeats. He held UMD to just two hits
after the second inning, and retired the last 11 batters he faced,
striking out six and walking just one on the day.
