Judges drop two to Suffolk

WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior pitcher Rocco Toppi took the mound to start the first of two games in today's doubleheader against Suffolk University. Toppi pitched five innings, allowing only one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Judges posted two runs through the five innings to maintain a one-run lead. Senior pitcher Tyler Robinson came in relief for Toppi in the last two innings, giving up four runs on three hits including a three-run home run to Junior catcher Nick Martinho in the seventh.

The Judges managed to put up one last run in the bottom of the seventh off Sophomore infielder Drake Livada's two out double, but that would be it for Brandeis in the first contest.

Senior pitcher Craig Letendre would step foot on the mound for Brandeis in the second game. Letendre pitched three innings, giving up two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Sophomore Kyle Ritchie came in relief in the fourth inning, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The Judges jumped out to an early lead when two runs came off the bat of freshman catcher Zach Wooley, steeping in for Artie Posch in the second game. Wooley's two out single would be the only runs for the Judges until the final inning.

Freshman Pat Nicholson came in relief of Ritchie to finish the game. Nicholson allowed only one earned run, but the seven hits tallied for four more, giving Suffolk a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

A lead-off single by senior shortstop Malcolm Cone-Coleman began a short rally for the Judges. Consecutive hits by Freshman Tony Deshler and Eric Rosenberg each drove in one run respectively. Suffolk reliever Greg DiMarco received the save, while striking out the last batter of the game.
