Ferro named UAA Hitter of the Week, March 22

WALTHAM, Mass. — For leading the Brandeis University baseball team to victory in their home opener, Judge rookie left fielder Chris Ferro of Walpole, Mass., has been named University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week for March 21.

In a 10-9 win over Bridgewater State College on March 18, Ferro hit a perfect 4-for-4 and added five RBI, three runs scored, a stolen base, a double, and a home run. Ferro tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth inning with a two-run home run, then doubled and scored in the fifth after BSC had taken a 7-4 lead in the top of the frame. His RBI single back to the mound in the sixth gave the Judges their first lead of the contest, and a sacrifice fly in the eighth put them ahead 9-7. BSC scored twice in the top of ninth before the Judges rallied to win in the bottom of the inning.

Eleven games into the season, Ferro now leads Brandeis with 11 RBI in just nine games and is tied for the team lead with two homers. He also ranks second among regulars with a .355 batting average and a .613 slugging percentage. Overall this season, the Judges own a 3-8 record. Their next contest is scheduled for March 24 at home against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 3 p.m.

Ferro is a 2009 graduate of Walpole High School. He is the son of Charles and Veronica Ferro, Walpole, Mass.
