WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Brandeis University men's baseball team defeated Grove City College in both games of their doubleheader on Saturday. The Judges took both games 6-4. With the wins the Judges are 3-3 on the season, and Wolverines drop to 0-5.
The Wolverines opened the scoring in the second inning with three runs on five straight singles. But the Judges answered back in the fourth with three runs of their own. Junior catcher Kenny Destremps (Mashpee, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) was walked and advanced to second when junior catcher Chris Ferro (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) was hit by a pitch. Senior SS Tony Deshler (Pepperell, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) was walked to load the bases. Sophomore RF Andrew Cohen (Beverly Hills, Calif./Montclair Prep School) singled for two RBI. Sophomore OF Nick Cortese (Guynabo, P.R./Baldwin School of Puerto Rico) hit a double to plate Deshler.
In the second game, the Judges had a big third inning, scoring all six of their runs. With one out and the bases loaded, Brandeis scored their first run on a sacrifice fly to right field by junior Jon Chu (Hollis Hills, N.Y./Bronx High School of Science) and posted two more when Deshler singled for 2 RBI. Ferro scored the fourth run on an error. Finally, Rosenberg singled for 2 RBI, to put the Judges ahead 6-2. The Wolverines scored two more runs in the game, giving Brandeis the 6-4 victory.
The Judges are in action again on March 7 when they face off against Drew University in Winter Haven, Fla.
