WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Brandeis University senior left fielder Brian Ing (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) had three extra-base hits and three RBI in support of junior Elio Fernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) , who had a career-long outing for the Judges, who defeated St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 10-6, for their third win in a row at the Russ Matt Invitational in Florida.

Ing had his second career three-hit game, and finished just one shy of his career-best with his three RBI. Ing drove in Brandeis's first run of the game with a double to center field in the second inning. He added a two-run double that capped a four-run sixth inning and put Brandeis ahead, 6-3. Ing added his first collegiate triple in the eighth inning, crossing the plate one batter later for the final Judges' run of the game.

Fernandez, who was making his fourth career start in 23 previous outings for the Judges, pitched into the eighth inning for the first time to earn his first career victory. His previous career-long outing was six frames against Case Western Reserve last season. Fernandez allowed the Bears eight hits, with six of them coming in SJC's three-run fourth inning. He doubled his previous career-best with six strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Other than the big inning, Fernandez did not allow a runner past second base.

The Judges had two other offensive stars . Junior 1B Tom McCarthy (Yonkers, N.Y./Fieldston School) was 2-4 with three RBI, while rookie 3B  Greg Heineman (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) was 2-3 with a double, triple and two RBI. Both players drove in runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, with McCarthy's two-run single in the seventh providing some key insurance runs, as SJC scored three unearned runs in the ninth inning against the Brandeis bullpen.

St. Joseph's had one multiple hitter, DH Thomas McKenna, who was 2-5 with an RBI. Left fielder Michael Camerada had the Bears' lone extra-base hit, a double that kick-started their three-run fourth inning. Chris Cutrone suffered the loss for SJC, going 6.2 innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs (eight earned). He struck out four and walked three.

The Judges return to action in Florida tomorrow at noon against Capital (Ohio) University.
