Brandeis softball and baseball to host disticntive events on Wednesday

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball and softball teams will host a pair of distinctive events on Wednesday, April 27.

The softball team will meet Salve Regina University on Marcus Field at 4:00 p.m. for a doubleheader. The contests will be part of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) StrikeOut Cancer initiative. The StrikeOut Cancer initiative is a program through the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to help raise funds and awareness to fight cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of fastpitch softball coaches nationwide to help increase cancer education and promote healthy living through awareness efforts and fundraising activities.

Since starting the StrikeOut Cancer initiative more than ten years ago, the NFCA has raised thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer. These monetary donations allow cancer organizations to continue their lifesaving efforts to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease through research, education, advocacy, and service.

The baseball team will meet Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 p.m., marking the first Brandeis game played under the lights since 2009. While neighbors Lasell College routinely play night contests on Stein Diamond, this will be only the third for the Judges since lights were added in 2008. The Judges defeated Rivier College, 5-0, on May 7, 2008, in the first night contest, which was also part of the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The last game played at night was a 12-9 loss to Wheaton College on May 1, 2009. The Judges will carry an eight-game winning streak and an 8-1 record at home into their came against Wentworth.
