Baseball's Liam O'Connor named UAA Hitter of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Liam O'Connor (Avon, Conn. / Avon) was named University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week for games played from April 25-May 1.

O'Connor was on fire this week, going 8-for-12 (.667). He also showcased both his keen eye at the plate, with a .733 on-base percentage, and his power, with a .917 slugging percentage.

The week started off well for O'Connor and only got better as it went along. He went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in a 7-4 win vs. Wentworth on Wednesday, and stayed hot the next day against Johnson and Wales, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in a 12-4 loss. The Judges' centerfielder had his best game of the week on Sunday at Trinity (Conn.) going 4-for-5 with three doubles, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored in a 16-4 win, Brandeis's tenth win in its last eleven games.

This week was only a continuation of O'Connor's phenomenal season, his best year as a member of the Judges. He has a career-high batting line of .433/.490/.489, good for a .979 OPS. He has shattered his previous career highs in many offensive categories, including hits (61, previous high of 44), runs scored (35, previous high of 24), walks (16, previous high of 8), and even stolen bases (5, previous high of 3).

O'Connor leads the team in the following offensive categories: batting average, on-base percentage, hits, walks, and runs scored. He is also vying for the UAA batting title, with an eight-point lead for best batting average going into the final games of the season.
