Baseball places five on All-UAA team

2020 All-UAA Baseball Selections: Isaac Fossas, Luke Hall, Mike Khoury, Victor Oppenheimer and Greg Tobin

WALTHAM, Mass. – Five members of the Brandeis University baseball team have been honored with All-University Athletic Association honors today. The UAA is only recognizing All-Conference this year without differentiating between first and second teams.

Junior outfielder Mike Khoury of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, landed on the All-Association team for the third time, having claimed second-team honors as a first-year and first-team recognition last year. In the Judges' 10 games this season, Khoury tied for the team lead with 12 RBI – fifth-most in the UAA – and three home runs – ranked second in the league. He batted .326 with 14 hits in a team-high 43 at bats. Khoury also had three doubles for a .605 slugging percentage. Khoury now owns a .342 career batting average and .581 slugging percentage. He has 14 career home runs, tied for ninth in school history, and 69 RBI.

Junior first baseman Isaac Fossas of Milton, Massachusetts, was recognized for the second-straight year. Fossas finished second on the team with a career-high .410 batting average – ranked fifth in the UAA, .465 on-base percentage and .692 slugging percentage. Fossas tied for squad-high honors with 16 hits and five doubles – third in the UAA. He hit two home runs and had nine RBI. Fossas is now a .317 career hitter with seven home runs, 63 RBI and 23 doubles.

Senior second baseman Victor Oppenheimer of West Hills, California, also earned a second-straight All-Association honor after landing on the second team last year. Oppenheimer delivered career-highs with a .389 batting average, .425 on-base percentage and .528 slugging percentage. He drove in 12 runs and had five doubles, both tied for the most on the team, while his 14 hits were tied for third on the squad. Oppenheimer raised his career batting average to .302, while his 30 career doubles are tied for 15th in program history.

Junior catcher Luke Hall of Georgetown, Massachusetts, was the final position player who earned a spot on the All-UAA team. Hall led the team and the UAA with a .471 batting average and a .971 slugging percentage, while his .561 on-base percentage was second in the league. Hall had four doubles, while his two triples and three home runs were both tied for second in the conference. His team-leading 14 runs scored were fourth in the league, while his 11 RBI were seventh. Hall hit safely in eight of 10 games with five multi-hit contests. He also had five games with multiple runs scored. Hall is now a .335 career hitter with a .498 career slugging percentage with 44 RBI, 16 doubles, three triples and four home runs.

Senior left-hander Greg Tobin of Medway, Massachusetts, earned his first career All-UAA honor on the hill. Tobin started four of the Judges' 10 contests, winning three of them to tie for the UAA lead. He also led the league with 29 strikeouts and 25.1 innings pitched. Tobin's 2.10 earned-run average was eighth-best in the league. Tobin had a fantastic outing in his final game of the season, striking out 13 Western New England University batters in just seven innings of a 13-1 victory. Tobin posted a 9-12 career record with one save. He had a 4.46 ERA, while his 147 strikeouts are 15th in program history.

In their fifth season under head coach Derek Carlson '91, the Brandeis baseball team finished with a 6-4 record. The Judges won their first five games for the first time since 2002 season. The ten or more runs they scored in those five games set a program record for most consecutive games reaching double digits.

Khoury is a 2018 graduate of East Bridgewater High School.

Fossas is a 2018 graduate of Milton Academy.

Oppenheimer is a 2017 graduate of Chaminade High School.

Hall is a 2018 graduate of Georgetown High School.

Tobin is a 2017 graduate of Catholic Memorial School.
