WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University grad student 1B Mike Khoury (E. Bridgewater, Mass./E. Bridgewater) continued his hot hitting today, going 6-for-9 with a pair of home runs, five RBI and six runs scored today as the Judges defeated visiting Bates College, 7-6 and 21-9, in a pair of non-conference baseball games on Stein Diamond. With the wins, the Judges improve to 5-2, while the Bobcats fall to 2-8.

In the opener, Khoury went 3-for-5 with his fifth home run of the season, a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Included among his RBI was a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the second contest, Khoury went 3-for-4 with another double and home run, three RBI and four runs. With his two homers today, Khoury moved into a tie for third place on Brandeis's career list with 24, while his career RBI total increased to 99.

In addition to Khoury's big day, grad student Dan Frey (Ipwsich, Mass./St. John's Prep) had an impressive offensive showing. After going 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two run scored in the opener, Frey nearly hit for the cycle in game two. He only needed a single, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam in the fourth inning, a two-run double in the seventh and a two-run triple in the eight. The eight RBIs Frey had in the game were the most by a Brandeis player since at least 2005. Frey also scored four runs.

In the opener of the twinbill today, Brandeis jumped out to a 6-0 lead through four innings, but Bates rallied with a run in the fifth and five more in the sixth. The Bobcats tied things up on back-to-back two-run doubles by Jack Brennan and Henry Jamieson.

In the bottom of the seventh, with one out, the next two Judges reached on walks against Micah Sheets. Bates went to the bullpen for reliever Ian McAslan, who hit the next batter to load the bases for Khoury. Matthew Shrake came on for the Bobcats and Khoury delivered the walk-off hit to make a winner of senior reliever Cam Roberts (Leominster, Mass./Leominster).

In the second game, the Judges fell behind, 4-0, after two-and-a-half innings, then went on to put up crooked numbers in five of their final six at-bats to take the 21-9 victory. Brandeis scored six in the third to go ahead, 6-4. After the Bobcats answered with three in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead, Frey's grand slam made it 10-4. Brandeis scored two more in the sixth, six in the seventh and three in the eighth to surpass the 20-run mark for the third time in the last two seasons.

In addition to Khoury's and Frey's big day, the Judges also got a grand slam from junior SS Drew Michaud (Madison, Conn / Xavier) and a two-run homer from junior 3B Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif. / Palos Verde). Those four players, plus junior RF Steven Simon (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) each had three hits in the game.

The Bobcats had a pair of home runs in the contest, from 2B Ben Genser and RF Drew Fallon. Catcher Noah Jankowski had two doubles and three RBI for the visitors.

Brandeis senior Marc Maestri (Katonah, N.Y. / Somers) earned the win with six innings of relief, allowing 10 hits and seven runs (six earned). He fanned six and walked two.

The Judges host Wentworth on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and welcome the Bobcats back to Stein Diamond next Thursday at 4 p.m.
