WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University graduate student Mike Khoury of E. Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and sophomore pitcher Alex Cohen of West Palm Beach, Florida, have been named the University Athletic Association Baseball Hitter and Softball Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Khoury, who earned UAA honors for the first time this season and the second time in his career, was virtually unstoppable for the Judges in a 4-0 week. He batted 13-for-17 with three walks, three doubles, five home runs, 13 runs scored and 13 RBI, giving him a .765 batting average, .810 on-base percentage and 1.824 slugging percentage. He had at least three hits, two RBI and two runs in all four contests, highlighted by a two-homer game in a 13-6 win over St. Joseph's (Maine) on March 18 and a walk-off single in the opener of a March 20 doubleheader against Bates that gave Brandeis a 7-6 win. With his five homers, Khoury moved into a tie for third on Brandeis's career home run list with 24. He also moved into Brandeis's career top-10 in runs scored (121, 8th) and RBI (99, T10th).

Overall this season, Khoury is batting .516 with a .583 on-base percentage and 1.194 slugging percentage. He has three doubles, six home runs, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored. Thanks to his big week, as of March 22nd, Khoury leads NCAA Division III in home runs per game and runs per game, while ranking third in slugging, fourth in RBI per game and 28th in batting average.

The 5-2 Judges return to action this week with games against Wentworth on Wednesday and Bates on Thursday.

Cohen was named UAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and in her career. With the Judges returning to action for the first time since late February, Cohen earned a relief win in both ends of a doubleheader sweep of Simmons College on March 20. She tossed eight innings of 2-hit ball, allowing just one unearned run and striking out 13 without a walk. Cohen pitched four innings in each contest, striking out seven in the first game and six in the second. She also had a triple in six at-bats in the twin-bill as Brandeis won Game 1, 3-1, and came from behind to win Game 2, 3-2, in eight innings.

Overall this season, Cohen is 4-1 with a 1.24 earned-run average. She has 29 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched, allowing eight runs (four earned). She leads the UAA in ERA and is third in strikeouts and tied for third in wins.

The 8-2 Judges, who were ranked #24 in Division III by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in the preseason, are at WPI this afternoon for a doubleheader before opening UAA play with a four-game series at Washington University starting on Friday.

Khoury is a 2017 graduate of East Bridgewater High School.

Cohen is a 2020 graduate of The Benjamin School.
