HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1 (Bates 13, Brandeis 8)

  • The Judges got things evened up in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases with two away when senior CF Sam Nugent (Mansfield, Mass. / Mansfield) delivered a single to center that plated two runs. The third run came home when the throw to third sailed into the Brandeis dugout.
  • The Bobcats answered in the third with a solo home run by 1B Henry Jamieson. CF Tyler Attal added a two-run double as part of a four-run fourth that gave the visitors an 8-3 lead.
  • Brandeis got one back in the bottom of the inning on an infield grounder from junior Mike DiCenso (Cranston, R.I. / Moses Brown) that plated rookie RF Jake Beaney (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere), but Bates's Drew Fallon's bomb in the fifth made it 9-4, Bobcats. The visitors tacked on three more in that frame and another in the sixth to go ahead, 13-4.
