WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University baseball team ended its season on a high note today, as the Judges swept a doubleheader from visiting Curry College. Brandeis won the opener, 6-5, on a walk-off squeeze bunt, then got a complete-game pitching performance from senior Christian Tejada (Providence, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) to take a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME ONE (Brandeis 6, Curry 5, 8 innings)

• Brandeis jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 5-3 before Curry tied things up late, setting the stage for some walk-off heroics.
• In the bottom of the first, senior LF Steven Simon (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) broke the ice with an infield ground-out that plated classmate Sam Nugent (Mansfield, Mass. / Mansfield).
• In the third inning, the Judges added four more runs, with senior DH Griffin Bodow (Tempe, Ariz. / Tempe Prep) driving in two runs with his first career triple. He came home on first-year 1B Matthew Motiwalla's (South Orange, N.J. / Columbia) single to left that made it 4-0.
• Curry got to Brandeis senior starter Asher Kaplan (Jamaica Plain, Mass. / Boston Latin) in the fourth inning, delivering four straight singles and five out of six to plate three runs.
• Brandeis got one of those runs back in the bottom of the frame when Simon singled to center field to score Nugent to make it 5-3.
• The Colonels tied things up in the top of the sixth, when SS Ryan Goonan doubled to bring in one run, while the Judges traded the tying run for an out on a grounder by 2B Julian Jaume.
• Both teams went quietly between the bottom of the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.
• Brandeis grad student Christian Petrisko (Fort Lauderdale, Fla / Westminster Academy) retired the side in order for the second inning in a row in the eighth to set up the Judges' heroics.
• Bodow opened the eighth with a double down the left-field line. Motiwalla followed with a perfect bunt, allowing pinch runner Sean Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif./Vistimar) to get to third.
• With runners on the corners and no one out, Curry brought in Tommy Marshall to face Brandeis junior RF Nick Heafey (Florence, Mass. / Williston-Northampton School). Heafey laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to third, and Decker-Jacoby slid just under the tag for the winning run.
• Petrisko earned his first win of the season (1-2) and the fourth of his career with four innings of three-hit relief. He allowed two earned runs and struck out four with no walks. Kaplan's four innings of work saw 10 hits and three earned runs with two Ks.
• Colman Dyer took the loss for Curry, falling to 0-4. He allowed 13 hits in seven innings, giving up six earned runs with five strikeouts and a walk.
• Offensively, Motiwalla led the Judges with three hits and an RBI, while Nugent had two runs scored and a stolen base.
• Bodow had both of Brandeis's extra-base hits with a double and a triple and joined Simon with two RBI.
• Curry DH Devin Grove had three hits for the visitors, while he and RF Connor Hanlon each scored two runs. 2B Julian Jaume had two RBI for the visitors.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME TWO (Brandeis 7, Curry 2)

• The second game was the Christian Tejada show, as the senior set career-highs in innings pitched and strikeouts with his seven-inning, eight-K performance. He allowed just four hits and four walks in the contest.
• The Colonels struck first in the one, with Jaume driving in Goonan for a run before Brandeis got out of the inning with a 5-4-3 double play.
• The Judges scored two runs in each of the next three innings. In the second, the big blow was a two-run home run for Motiwalla to right field, the first of his career.
• In the third, after rookie 2B Alex Kim (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) walked to lead off the inning, Simon followed with a triple to right, scoring on a Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde) sacrifice fly that made it 4-1.
• Jaume produced another run for CC in the fourth, when he doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a grounder to short by LF Tommy Marshall.
• In the bottom of the frame, the first three Judges singled, with Bodow scoring on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and no one out. Kim followed with a fly ball to right field that was snagged by Conor Hanlon just before hitting the ground. While Motiwalla scored from third on the play, Heafey was ruled to have left the bag early. After some discussion with the umpires, the run counted putting Brandeis ahead, 6-2.
• Tejada took over from there, working around single walks in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to finish the contest. He improved to 1-2 on the season.
• Curry's Cameron Herndon fell to 0-4 on the campaign after allowing five hits and four earned runs in three innings of work.
• Motiwalla led the Brandeis hitters, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to go with his home run. He drove in two and scored two. Bodow went 2-2 and scored three runs.
• Jaume led the visitors with two hits, including his double.

SENIOR DAY

• Before the contest, Brandeis honored their 12 seniors and grad students appearing in their final home games. They were: pitcher Christian Petrisko; pitcher Gavin Dauer and pitcher Marc Maestri among the graduate students and infielder Drew Michaud; pitcher Reid Latham; outfielder Sam Nugent; outfielder Steven Simon; pitcher Jakob Newman; pitcher Asher Kaplan; infielder Brian King; catcher Griffin Bodow; and pitcher Christian Tejada.
