WALTHAM, Mass. – Two members of the Brandeis University men's basketball team have earned All-University Athletic Association honors. Junior guard Tyrone Hughes of Roslindale, Mass., was a second-team All-UAA selection, while rookie center Youri Dascy of Fall River, Mass., was an All-UAA honorable mention.
Hughes, a tri-captain, finished the regular season third on the team in scoring at 8.5 points per game, while leading the team and finishing third in the UAA with 4.8 assists per game. He was 65th among all NCAA Division III players in assists per game and 64th with a 1.94 assist-to-turnover ratio. Hughes also led the Judges with 36 steals and was fourth with 3.8 rebounds per game.
During the regular season, Hughes led Brandeis in assists 20 times in 25 games and in scoring 3 times, including career-high a 22 points in 86-82 OT win over Emory on Jan. 28 and again in a 77-75 loss at Washington University on Feb. 20. He had 11 games of at least six assists, including a career-high eight in contests against Tufts (Dec. 5) and the University of Rochester (Feb. 6). Hughes was involved in one of Brandeis's most dramatic plays of the season, going coast-to-coast on Nov. 30 to hit a buzzer-beater in a 67-65 overtime win against Clark University.
Dascy was the Judges' leading scorer during the regular season, when he averaged 10 points per game, 20th overall in the UAA and third among rookies, while his 4.8 rebounds per game were second on the squad. Dascy's 63.0% field-goal percentage led the UAA, though he did not have enough buckets to be eligible for the NCAA rankings. He also led the Judges with 14 blocked shots. Dascy recorded two double-doubles (21 pts, 11 rebounds Jan. 6 at Emerson and 14 pts, 10 rebounds Jan. 28 against Emory), leading the team in scoring nine times and rebounding eight times in the regular season. He established a new career scoring high in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England championship tournament, when he scored 24 points to lead the sixth-seeded Judges past third-seeded Keene State College, 84-77, en route to the third ECAC crown in team history.
Brandeis finished the 2011 season with a record of 19-9. After starting the season at 11-0, the best start in school history, the Judges rose to No. 13 in the nation in the D3hoops.com poll. Though they stumbled in UAA play, finishing with a 6-8 conference record to place fifth, they Judges rallied to win the ECAC tournament. After knocking off Keene State in the opening round, they defeated No. 7 seed Mass. College of Liberal Arts, 76-66, in the semifinals and top-seed Eastern Connecticut State University, 65-50, in the championship game. The Judges added their ECAC crown to those won in 1974 and 1992.

Dascy is a 2010 graduate of St. Andrews School, Barrington, R.I. He is the son of Pierre & Marie-Renee Dascy, Fall River, Mass.
