Meehan named to New England Basketball Hall of Fame

WALTHAM, Mass. — On Saturday, June 22, 2013, Brandeis University men's basketball coach Brian Meehan was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame at the DCU Center in his hometown of Worcester, Mass.

Meehan, who will start his 11th season on the bench at Brandeis in 2013-14, is second all-time in career wins at Brandeis. His 167 victories trail only Bob Brannum's 203 wins; Brannum was a 2009 New England Basketball Hall of Fame honoree. His .630 winning percentage is the best in school history.

Meehan led the Judges to a record four-straight NCAA Division III  tournament berths from 2007 to 2010, including trips to the Elite Eight in 2008 and 2010. He also guided the squad to the 2011 ECAC Division III New England title after they got off to a school-record 11-0 start.

Meehan also coached for seven years at Salem State, where he produced a record of 160-39, giving him an overall career record of 327-137. His .704 career winning percentage is among the top 10 among active Division III coaches. Meehan led the Vikings to seven postseason berths – six NCAA and one ECAC – reaching the Final Four in 2000. For his efforts with Salem State, Meehan was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2010.

Meehan joins Brannum and current women's coach Carol Simon as Brandeis coaches inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. Glenn Wong '74 has also been inducted under their Scholar-Athlete program.
