Men close season with 90-75 loss at NYU

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Brandeis men's basketball team closed out its 2014-15 season today with a 90-75 loss at the hands of rival NYU, earning split of the season series.

Brandeis put four starters in double figures in scoring for the game. Rookie forward Jordan Cooper (Weston, Fla./Sagemont School) led the team with 18 points, hitting 5-of-18 from the field, 1-of-5 from downtown and 7-of-8 from the line. Sophomore forward Tim Reale (Mason, Ohio/St Andrews, R.I., School) added 14 points on 5-of-10 field goals and 4-of-7 free throws. Sophomore guard Robinson Vilmont (Cambridge, Mass./Wilbraham and Monson Acad.) added 10 points. Cooper and Vilmont tied for team-high honors with five rebounds, while junior guard Colby Smith (No. Andover, Mass./No. Andover) had four assists. Cooper also had two steals and two blocked shots.

NYU put four players in double figures and had two double-double performances. Forward Evan Kupferberg had 16 points and 17 rebounds, while guard Ross Udine came off the bench with 12 points and 13 assists. Violet guard Hakeem Harris led all players with 25 points, hitting 6-of-13 overall but 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also connected on all eight foul shots. Costis Gontikas rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 points off the bench. NYU never trailed in the game, with a brief tie early in the contest.

The Violets connected on 53% from the field (31-59) and 56% from 3-point range (9-16). NYU's numbers were even better in the first half, when they shot 56% (19-34) and 73% from deep (8-11) as they jumped out to a 52-37 lead at the break.

The Judges end their campaign with a 9-16 record, 4-10 in the University Athletic Association.
