Jordan Cooper named UAA, D3hoops.com Northeast Regional Rookie of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University men's basketball forward Jordan Cooper of Weston, Fla., has added D3hoops.com 2015 Northeast Regional Rookie of the Year honors. He had previously been selected as the 2015 University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Rookie of the Year.

Cooper is just the second Brandeis player to earn UAA Rookie of the Year honors since the award was first given in 2001, joining Florian Rexhepi '08 in 2005. He is the program's first D3hoops.com Rookie of the Year honoree. 

Cooper, who played in all 25 games this season and started 21, was the Judges' leading scorer this season. He averaged 12.4 points per game, 13th-best in the UAA. His 13.9 points-per-game average was 10th-highest in the conference. He also averaged 3.3 rebounds per contest and was 10th in the UAA in free-throw percentage at 74.1 percent (60-81). Cooper was second on the Judges with 30 3-pointers, connecting at a 33.7 percent clip.

He led the Judges in scoring 10 times, a team-high, and rebounding four times. Cooper scored in double figures 16 times this season, reaching 20 points on three occasions. His 28 points in a 60-55 loss at Bates College on Jan. 6 was the team's high-scoring performance of the season. Cooper also had 27 points and a season-high eight rebounds in 37 minutes of an 83-81 UAA overtime loss at Case Western Reserve on Jan. 18, while adding 20 points and career-best four assists in a 78-63 UAA win at the University of Chicago on Feb. 20. Cooper also notched 15 points in a 78-58 upset of then-second-ranked Amherst on Dec. 9.

Brandeis finished the 2014-15 season with a 9-16 record in head coach Brian Meehan's 12th season on the sidelines. The Judges were 4-10 in the UAA.

Cooper, who also earned Honorable Mention All-UAA, shared conference Rookie of the Year honors with Ross Udine of NYU.

Cooper is a 2014 graduate of the Sagemont School.
