WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's basketball team couldn't secure a split in their season series with Emory University tonight as the Judges dropped an 88-64 decision to the Eagles. Brandeis falls to 11-8 with the loss, 4-4 in the University Athletic Association, while Emory improves to 15-4, 6-2 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Judges got off to a flying start, outscoring Emory 14-5 over the first 5:13. Brandeis took its biggest lead on a Corey Sherman (Penn Valley, Pa./Lower Merion) 3-pointer.
• Emory roared back, scoring 18 of the game's next 19 points over the next six minutes, taking a 22-15 lead on a Nick Stuck lay-up.
• The Eagles would expand their lead as large as nine points at 28-19 on another Stuck bucket with 7:37 to go before halftime.
• Brandeis would not let the visitors pull away, with sophomore guard Lawrence Sabir (Providence, R.I./LaSalle Academy) hitting a 3-pointer late in the stanza to make it a 41-36 lead for Emory at the break.
• The Eagles opened the second half on a 15-4 run, including a pair of 3-pointers from Romin Williams and another by Matt Davet that capped the string and made it 56-40 with 15:25 to go.
• Brandeis looked to cut down EU's momentum with back-to-back trifectas of their own from sophomore Chandler Jones (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Commonwealth Academy) and junior Eric D'Aguanno (Saunderstown, R.I./St. Andrews School) that got the deficit back to 10 points, but Williams answered from downtown.
• That bucket sparked a 20-3 run over the next five minutes that put the game out of reach at 76-49 with 7:33 remaining. The Eagles would extend their lead to 29 points before the final 24-point score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• D'Aguanno finished with a game-high 21 points off the bench, hitting 7-of-12 from the field, 4-of-8 from downtown and 3-of-3 from the line. He also tied for team-high honors with four rebounds.
• Fourteen of his 21 points came in the second half.
• Sherman added 11 points and Jones had 10.
• Sabir finished with a fine all-around performance, with eight points, four rebounds and a career-high-tying nine assists.
• Emory had four players score in double digits, with Davet also leading his team off the bench with 20 points, 11 coming in the first half. Davet hit 8-of-14 overall, 2-of-6 from deep and 1-of-2 from the line.
• Three other Emory starters finished in double digits in scoring: Stuck with 18 points, Lawrence Rowley with 15 and Williams with 13.
• Rowley also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while Williams dished out six assists.
• Emory outrebounded Brandeis, 40-23, including 14-2 on the offensive glass, turning that into a 22-5 advantage in second-chance points.
• The Eagles also won the turnover battle, 19-8, converting into a 28-7 margin in points off those miscues.
• Emory has the two highest point totals allowed by the Judges this season.
