Three Judges earn UAA Athlete of the Week honors, Jan. 20

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three Brandeis University student-athletes have been selected by the University Athletic Association for their performances during the week ending January 19th.

Sophomore center Nolan Hagerty of Yarmouth, Maine, was honored for the first time in his career as the UAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Hagerty led the Judges in scoring, rebounding and assists as they picked up two UAA victories. In a wire-to-wire 75-54 win over the University of Rochester on Friday evening, Hagerty had 18 points, four rebounds and five assists. On Saturday afternoon, Hagerty helped the Judges defeat #3-ranked Emory University, 75-73, with a career-high 21 points and 14 rebounds. The double-double was his third of the season. For the week, Hagerty shot 17-of-26 from the field (65.4%). With the wins, Brandeis improved to 11-3 on the season. They were ranked #24 in yesterday's D3hoops.com national poll, the Judges' first national ranking since 2013. Brandeis will meet #13-ranked Washington University in St. Louis on the road on Friday evening in a battle of 3-0 conference teams.

Rookie sabre fencer Jessica Morales of Wilmington, Massachusetts, was honored as the UAA Women's Fencer of the Week for the fourth time this year after her performance at the Philadelphia Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Facing three of the top 10 teams in the CollegeFencing360.com NCAA Fencing poll, Morales posted a 14-1 record. She was 3-0 against #3 Columbia, #9 Northwestern and #10 UPenn, as well as Wayne State University, suffering her only loss when she went 2-1 against Drew University. Morales and the Brandeis women went 2-3 over the weekend, though the sabre squad was 4-1. The Judges are 9-8 overall and will compete at the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season this Saturday at Boston College.

Senior Aaron Corin of Sudbury, Massachusetts, earned his first career UAA weekly honor as the Men's Field Performer of the Week. Competing at Bowdoin College, Corin placed third in the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters (13 feet, 11 ¼ inches). The mark was a personal best and is ranked 45th in Division III this season. Corin and the Judges will send a split squad to Boston University and MIT this weekend.

Hagerty is a 2018 graduate of Yarmouth High School.

Morales is a 2019 graduate of Wilmington High School.

Corin is a 2016 graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
