Men never trail in 90-62 win over RIC

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's basketball team never trailed today as they defeated visiting Rhode Island College, 90-62, in non-conference action today in Red Auerbach Arena.

TEAM RECORDS

  • Brandeis, 2-0.
  • Rhode Island College, 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges never trailed, and the game was tied twice early, at 8-all and 13-all.
  • Brandeis went on a 12-3 run after the Anchormen tied it for the second time, and they never looked back
  • The Judges shot 53% from the field (17-32) and 55% from 3-point range (6-11)  while holding RIC to 35% (10-29) and 20% (1-5), respectively, to take a 42-26 lead at halftime.
  • They didn't let up in the second, connecting on 51% (19-37) and 39% (5-13), while the visitors hit just 36% (14-39) and 13% (1-8). The Judges outscored RIC, 48-36, after the intermission.
  • Brandeis outrebounded their opponent, 43-38, after the Anchormen outrebounded their opponents by 14.5 boards per game in their first two.
  •  The Judges also dished out 21 assists to just eight for Rhode Island College.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Brandeis got another game-high performance from sophomore Toby Harris (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy), who led all scorers with 24 points. He hit 9-of-11 from the field, 4-of-6 from 3-point range and both of his free throw attempts. Harris also pulled down nine rebounds, tied for game-high honors.
  • Harris scored 15 of his 24 points in the first half.
  • Also reaching double digits for career-highs were senior Sam Adusei (Worcester, Mass. / St. George's School) and first-year Ethan Edawrds (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Woodstock Acad.). Both scored 10 points on the night, with Adusei scoring all of his in the first half and Edwards's coming in the second.
  • Sophomore forward Griffin Walbridge (Longmeadow, Mass. / Tabor Academy) finished with a career-high nine points including a pair of thunderous dunks in the second half.
  • In all, 12 different Judges scored points.
  • Edwards and first-year Quron Zene (Windsor, Conn. / IMG Acad.) tied for game-high honors with four assists each.
  • RIC was led by 21 points by Shion Darby and 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench from Mitchel Noresca. Six of Noresca's rebounds came on the offensive glass.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • In his first two games this season, Harris is averaging 27 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 69% from the field and 56% from 3-point range.
  • Brandeis has won three of the last four meetings with RIC.
  • This was their largest-ever margin of victory, surpassing a 27-point win in 2015.
