Harris named UAA Player of the Week, Dec. 5

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Men’s Basketball sophomore Toby Harris of Durham, North Carolina, has earned his second career University Athletic Association Player of the Week honors on December 5, 2022.  

Harris averaged 21 points and 8.3 rebounds along with 1.7 assists and steals per game in a 2-1 week for the Judges. He helped them to a sixth-straight win to start the season and 10th in a row overall with a 76-70 win over Emerson on Nov. 28. Harris was held under 20 points in a game for the first time this season with 19 in a 66-52 loss at Colby on Dec. 3, but bounced back with his third career double-double and first of the season, with 24 points and career-high 13 rebounds in a 68-58 win over Bates on Dec. 4. The games against Colby and Bates were part of the UAA-NESCAC Challenge, which was won by the UAA, 6-2.

Harris leads the UAA in scoring this season, averaging 23.0 points per game, while ranking fifth in the league at 7.4 rebounds per game. Harris also leads the league with 28 3-pointers and ranks fourth in 3-point percentage at 50.0%. He’s also fifth in free throw percentage at 80%. Harris is among the leaders in all of Division III in points (184, 7th), 3-pointers (10th), scoring average (17th), 3-pointers per game (3.50, 18th) and 3-point percentage (22nd).

With their win over Bates, the Judges improved to 7-1, their best record after eight games since the 2012 season. Their 6-0 start was the team’s best since 2010, and the Judges had won 10 in a row dating to the 2021-22 season before their loss to Colby. Brandeis returns to action on Thursday evening against local rivals Babson at 7 p.m. at home to close out the semester.

Harris is a 2021 graduate of Durham Academy.
