Austin, Cardillo lead men's fencing at second NFC meet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Brandeis men's fencing posted a 2-3 record at the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season at Brown University. The Judges topped Dartmouth, 18-9, and Tufts, 15-12. The dropped 15-12 decisions to rivals Boston College and Brown, and fell to Vassar by a score of 17-10. Brandeis finished the NFC season with a 6-4 record.

The top individual performers of the meet were rookie Julian Cardillo (Medford, Mass./St. Johns Prep), who went 11-0 in the foil, and senior Adam Austin (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack), who went 9-2 in the saber. Both the saber and foil squads went 3-2 on the day, with the saber team earning a 9-0 win over Dartmouth and the foilists posting narrow 5-4 wins over Dartmouth, Vassar and Brown.
