Men go 3-2 at second Northeast Fencing Conference meet

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Brandeis men's fencing team posted a 3-2 record at their second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season. The Judges posted a 1-1 record in matches decided by one bout, defeating Dartmouth, 14-13, but falling to Brown by the same score. Brandeis also bested Tufts, 21-6, and Vassar, 17-10, while falling to host Boston College, 16-11.

Both the foil and saber squads went 4-1 on the afternoon. The foilists picked up a 6-3 win in the loss to BC, while the saber fencers took a 5-4 decision against Brown. Unfortunately, the other two weapons were also 5-4 tallies in favor of the Bears. The Dartmouth match saw both the foil and saber squads pick up narrow 5-4 wins, while the epee team fell just short by the same score.

The top performers on the day for the Judges came from the foil squad. Rookie Noah Berman (Palo Alto, Calif.), picked up the most wins with a 9-3 mark, and sophomore Julian Cardillo (Medford, Mass./St. John's Prep), posted the top winning percentage, going .800 (8-2). Two rookie members of the saber squad, Jess Ochs-Willard (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) and Adam Mandel (White Plains, N.Y./The Masters School) also had eight-win days. 

The Judges move to 7-7 overall, 7-3 in the NFC. They return to action next Saturday with the Eric Sollee Invitational at home againstNYU, Penn, Hunter, Johns Hopkins and Haverford.
