WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University juniors Maggie Shealy of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Ben Rogak of E. Setauket, N.Y., have been named the University Athletic Association Fencers of the Week for their performances during the week ending January 23rd.

Shealy continued her excellence this season, going 11-2 at the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet, as the Judges were 1-4 overall in the meet, held at home in the Gosman Athletic Center. She went 2-1 against MIT and BC, 3-0 against Brown and Vassar, and 1-0 against Dartmouth. Brandeis defeated Dartmouth (17-8) and lost to MIT (13-14), Brown, (5-22), Vassar (11-16), and BC (8-19). The saber squad was fencing with only two fencers this weekend, putting the Judges shorthanded in those bouts. Shealy, who was named UAA Fencer of the Week for the fifth time in as many competitions this season, leads the Judges with a 65-14 record this season.

Rogak went 8-1 in epee as the Brandeis men went 4-1 at the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season. The Judges defeated Brown (14-13), Dartmouth (22-5), Vassar (21-6), and BC (16-11) and lost to MIT (11-16). Rogak had winning records against all four of his opponents, including a 3-0 record against BC, as Brandeis defeated the Eagles for the first time under head coach Jennie Salmon. Rogak also went 2-1 against MIT, 2-0 against Brown, and 1-0 against Vassar, to improve to 29-18 on the season, tied for second-most wins on the Judges. This is his first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of the season and the second of his career. He is the fifth different Brandeis fencer to win UAA Men's Fencer of the Week this year.

The Brandeis fencing team returns to action this Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Eric Sollee Invitational at MIT.

Shealy is a 2019 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.

Rogak is a 2019 graduate of Ward-Melville High School.
