Rochester's Mickos ties UAA men's soccer scoring record in 7-1 win over Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Nate Micklos (Palantine, Ill.) scored two goals and registered two assists today as the visiting University of Rochester Yellowjacket men's soccer team defeated Brandeis University, 7-1, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) show-down. With his two goals and six points, Micklos tied the UAA records for career goals with 20 and career points with 47.

Rochester (9-0, 2-0 UAA) opened the scoring early on a nice display of passing as senior Jeremy Goico (West Hartford, Conn.) served the ball to Micklos, who headed it to senior forward Colin Fernie (Worthington, Ohio), who headed it home at the 4:00 mark. Micklos then tallied the game-winner at 22:03 on a free kick that bent around the wall and past Brandeis senior goalkeeper Matt Kaplan (Melville, N.Y.). UR scored on another direct kick just over 10 minutes later, with sophomore back Nick Mikolenko (Fairport, N.Y.) bending it home with his left foot. Sophomore reserve Jeremy Mann (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) closed out the half with a goal in the 41st minute.

Micklos tied the UAA goal record on a penalty kick in the second half at 54:03 and matched the points record just 89 seconds later when he assisted junior forward Gary Stom (Greensburg, Pa.) on a give-and-go. The Yellowjackets tacked on another goal in the 66th minute.

Brandeis (6-4-1, 0-1-1 UAA) spoiled the visitor's shutout bid in the 71st minute when junior Jason Ring (Stoneham, Mass.) blasted his first career goal from just outside the box.
