WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore forward Ben Premo (Florence,
Mass.) was involved in four of the Brandeis University men's soccer
goals tonight as the Judges defeated visiting Albertus Magnus
College, 6-0, on Gordon Field.
Brandeis (2-2-2) wasted little time getting on the board, scoring
in the fourth minute. After AMC (1-3-1) rookie goalkeeper Gerald
O'Connor (Hamden, Conn.) inadvertently touched the ball just
outside the box, Brandeis rookie midfielder Billy Murphy
(Springfield, Mass.) slammed the free kick off the Falcon wall and
into the net. The Judges doubled the lead in the ninth minute when
Premo sent a beautiful cross to the head of senior midfielder
Jordan Skolnick (Mansfield Center, Conn.), who converted his first
goal of the season.
At exactly the 18 minute mark, Premo notched his first goal of the
game and third of the season when he blasted home an Albertus
Magnus turnover. The Judges closed the first-half scoring in the
40th minute as rookie back Tyler Morrill (Newmarket, N.H.) sent a
long service ahead to classmate Patrick Metelus (Cambridge, Mass.).
Metelus tapped it ahead to sophomore midfielder Kevin Murphy
(Monson, Mass.), who sent it home.
In the second half, Premo slammed in a rebound in the 51st minute
for his second two-goal game of the season and the fifth of his
career. Premo closed out his six-point night by stripping a Falcon
defender in the 55th minute and feeding sophomore forward Alex
Mithoefer (Chappaqua, N.Y.), who sent the ball in fro 15 yards out
for his first career goal.
Brandeis outshot AMC by a 32-5 margin. O'Connor had fives saves and
four goals allowed for the Falcons in the first half, while
sophomore Alfredo Perez (Norwalk, Conn.) made three stops and let
in two goals in the second half. Brandeis rookie Josh Bellet
(Wayne, N.J.) had the Judges' only save, playing the final 35:50 in
relief of classmate Taylor Bracken (No. Andover, Mass.), who was
untested.
Brandeis is next in action on Wednesday at Wheaton College at 4:00
p.m., while Albertus Magnus heads to Daniel Webster on Sunday at
1:00 p.m. for a GNAC match.
