WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University and Clark
University men's soccer teams were unable to come to a decision
today, battling to a scoreless draw in two overtimes on Gordon
Field.
Brandeis (1-1-2) owned a 19-11 advantage in shots, including 15-7
in regulation. Clark (2-0-1) senior goalkeeper Matt Talbot (Havard,
Mass.) made seven saves, while Brandeis rookie Taylor Bracken (No.
Andover, Mass.) had six stops.
Clark looked to establish the tempo early, as junior forward David
Blum (Irvington, N.Y.) had three shots on goal in the first 12
minutes. The Judges settled down after that, allowing the Cougars
just one more shot the rest of the half. Brandeis had just on
attempt on Talbot, off the foot of sophomore forward Ben Premo
(Florence, Mass.).
Bracken stopped Blum twice in the first overtime period in the 92nd
and 96th minutes, while Brandeis had the two best opportunities in
the second extra session. Junior Evan Duval (Wilbraham, Mass.) had
a pair of point-blank shots from the wing in the 105th , but Talbot
blocked the first and corralled the ensuing rebound to preserve the
tie.
Brandeis is next in action next Wednesday at WPI for a 7 p.m.
contest, while Clark plays host to Anna Maria College on Monday at
6 p.m.
