Worcester, MA (taken from a WPI press release) - Four different
WPI players notched their first goal of the season as the Engineers
remained unbeaten with a hard-earned 4-2 victory over visiting
Brandeis Wednesday evening. WPI is now 4-0 on the season while
Brandeis drops to 1-2-2.
Chris Lyons (Jefferson, MA) put WPI ahead 2-1 with a goal just 1:20
into the second half. Brandeis answered right back as Evan
Duval’s (Wilbraham, MA) rocket found the back of the net just
over three minutes later. Timothy Lontz (Collegeville, PA) put the
Engineers up for good with an unassisted marker in the 71st minute
and Brandon Finzel (Northport, NY) provided an insurance goal with
a tally off a breakaway in the 84th minute.
The two teams traded first half goals. Brandeis broke into the
scoring column first when Billy Murphy (Springfield, MA) finished a
beautiful feed from Mike Snyder (Ashby, MA) in the 7th minute. WPI
got the equalizer in the 21st minute when Sean O’Keefe
(Walpole, MA) scored off feeds from Lontz and Finzel.
Goalkeepers Brian Catalano (Whitinsville, MA) of WPI and Taylor
Bracken (North Andover, MA) of Brandeis both notched two saves on
the evening.
The well-played contest was tight throughout as WPI enjoyed a
slight 11-10 advantage in shots while each team attempted four
corner kicks.
Brandeis is next in action on Friday evening when they entertain
Albertus Magnus in a match beginning at 6pm.
