CLEVELAND, Ohio (courtesy Case sports information) -- Case
Western Reserve University junior Matt Paglia (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
scored two goals today, as the No. 7-ranked Spartan men's soccer
team defeated Brandeis University, 3-0, in a University Athletic
Association (UAA) match-up.
Case (9-2, 1-1 UAA) took an early 1-0 advantage when junior Kevin
Bigart (Naperville, Ill.) scored his third goal of the season on a
penalty kick 11:12 into the game. Paglia would add two more goals
in the 64th and 70th minute of the game to bring help the Spartans
snap a two-game losing streak.
Brandeis (5-4-2, 0-2 UAA) saw its two-game winning streak snapped.
The Judges put six of their seven shots on goal, but Case netminder
Chad Skidmore (Centerville, Ohio) notched his seventh shutout of
the season in the victory. Sophomore Taylor Bracken (No. Andover,
Mass.) allowed the first two goals and made four saves, while
rookie Dave Zieja (Holyoke, Mass.) let in one goal and had one save
in his first collegiate action.
The Judges are next in action on Tuesday night against Newbury
College as head coach Mike Coven goes for career win number 398 in
his quest to become the 10th Division III coach with 400 wins.
