Waltham, MA --- Adam Guttman (Brewster, MA) and Evan Duval
(Wilbraham, MA) each tallied second half goals to help host
Brandeis defeat WPI 2-0 in non-conference men’s soccer action
on Sunday afternoon. The match was a make-up from a contest that
was postponed in September due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The victory was the 399th career win for Brandeis head coach Mike
Coven. He will attempt to become just the 8th active coach and 23rd
overall in NCAA Division III to reach the 400 win milestone when
the Judges host Lasell on Tuesday at 7pm.
After a scoreless first half, Brandeis struck for two goals in the
first 12:08 of the second stanza. Guttman got the Judges onto the
board in the 50th minute when he registered an unassisted goal.
Duval helped Brandeis double its advantage in the 58th minute when
he knocked home a feed from Ben Premo (Florence, MA) for his fourth
marker of the year.
Brandeis netminder Taylor Brackan (North Andover, MA) picked up the
win, notching four saves. Freshman Paul Moan (Watertown, MA) turned
away three shots for the Engineers.
The match was defensive-minded with Brandeis (7-7-2) mustering just
nine shots and WPI (3-11) managing only six. Ben Gilde (Manchester,
NH) paced the Crimson and Gray offensive attack with four shots on
the day. The loss was the third of the week for the Engineers
despite all three matches being scoreless at the half.
