Men's soccer wraps up successful home-stand with 4-0 win over Colby-Sawyer

WALTHAM, Mass. - Junior midfielder Mike Silberstein (Shrewsbury, N.J.) scored twice and senior forward Ben Premo (Florence, Mass.) moved into sixth place on the career goal-scoring list as the Brandeis University men's soccer team defeated visiting Colby-Sawyer College, 4-0, on Gordon Field. With the victory, the Brandeis men conclude a five-match homestand with a 4-1 record, while CSC falls to 0-5 on the season.

Brandeis got all the scoring they would need at the 17:12 mark when Premo tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Luke Teece (Tucson, Ariz.) sent a long ball in towards the Charger net. Premo beat both a defender and CSC junior goalkeeper Chris Feltes (Manchester, N.H.) to the ball to net his 33rd career goal, tying him with Mike Lichtenstein '79 on the Judges' career list.

Silberstein doubled the Brandeis lead at 41:42. Sophomore midfielder Stephen Kostel (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) sent a cross into the box, and Silberstein leapt and headed it  home for his first of the season.

Junior forward Patrick Metelus (Pernier, Haiti) matched Premo for the team goal-scoring lead at the 68:32 mark. After the ball went back and forth following a Brandeis corner kick, Metelus put home a deflection on a shot taken by junior back Alex Zenerovitz (Acton, Mass.). Silberstein closed out the scoring at 82:59 when he put the ball inside the far post at a tough angle on a feed from senior midfielder Alex Mithoefer (Chappaqua, N.Y.).

Colby-Sawyer managed 10 shots, just two of which were on goal. One came early in the contest from senior Doug Currie (Harvard, Mass.), the other midway through the second half by rookie Kevin Coyle (Bradford, N.H.). Brandeis rookie Sean O'Hare (Southampton, Mass.) made both saves and combined with sophomore Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass.) for the Judges' third shutout of the season. Feltes finished with four saves and three goals allowed in just over 71 minutes, while sophomore T.J. Doherty (E. Granby, Conn.) let in one goal and had one save in 18:48.

Brandeis is next in action on Wednesday evening at WPI at 7 p.m., while the Chargers face top-ranked Middlebury Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
