Men's soccer rolls past Newbury, 4-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Brandeis men's soccer team scored twice in each half today as the Judges won their second-straight road contest, 4-0, over the Newbury College Nighthawks.

Brandeis (6-1) got all the scoring they would need at the 28:45 mark when junior forward Mike Silberstein (Shrewsbury, N.J.) netted his third of the season on an assist from classmate Jaime Batista (Westford, Mass.). The Judges doubled the lead just two seconds before the end of the half on a tally by senior Alex Mithoefer (Chappaqua, N.Y.). Rookie forward Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass.) put home a feed from junior Patrick Metelus (Pernier, Haiti) in the 66th minute for his third goal of the campaign and senior Ben Premo (Florence, Mass.) put an exclamation point on the game with just over a minute and half left in regulation with his seventh of the season and the 35th of his career. Fellow co-captain Kevin Murphy (Monson, Mass.) had the assist.

Brandeis outshot Newbury (0-7) by a 25-7 margin, including 13-0 in shots on goal. Judge sophomore netminder Matt Lynch (Weymouth, Mass.) did not have to make a save to register the shutout, while Newbury rookie goalkeeper William McNally (Grafton, Mass.) had nine stops for the Nighthawks.

Brandeis is next in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they travel to Wheaton College to take on the Lyons, ranked No. 4 in the region last week before knocking off Williams, ranked No. 2 in New England and No. 10 in the nation.
