ROCHESTER, N.Y. (from a UR press release) -- The Brandeis men's
soccer team surrendered two goals in the first five minutes and
were unable to recover in their University Athletic Association
(UAA) opener, falling 3-0, to the 22nd-ranked University of
Rochester. Brandeis falls to 6-4, 0-1 in the UAA, while the
Yellowjackets improve to 7-1-2, 1-0 UAA.
J.J. Dennstedt pushed Rochester in front at 2:33 when he converted
a pass from Sean Hantes. Before the match was five minutes old, the
Yellowjackets had a 2-0 lead. Steve Welles crossed the ball from
the right sideline. A Brandeis defender tried to clear it but wound
up driving it into his own net for an own goal at 4:41.
The lead went to 3-0 at 21:22 when Dennstedt pounced on a rebound
and drove it home. It was his sixth goal of the season.
Michael Peacock played the initial 80:03 in goal for Rochester.
Brandon Campbell played the final 9:57. Neither goalie was required
to make a save. Brandeis took two shots, both in the first
half.
For the Judges, rookie Sean O’Hare
(Southampton, Mass.) made three saves in the full 90 minutes and
his defense cleared one ball off the line.
